Boil Water Advisory

UPDATE 10.17.19; 5:08AM:  The Boil Water Advisory for all concerned areas has been LIFTED.  It is no longer necessary to use boiled or bottled water for drinking or cooking.

On October 14, 2019 notification was issued of the need to boil all tap water used for drinking and cooking in the service area north of the River Raisin within the Raisinville, Exeter and London Townships and the Village of Maybee. Corrective measures have been taken and no coliform bacteria have been detected in follow-up testing of the system’s water. The water is safe to drink. It is suggested to flush your homes plumbing using the following method: run each cold water tap for 60 to 90 seconds, then proceed to run hot water taps for 5 minutes.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

For more information, please contact City of Monroe Water System at 734-384-9150 or 734-241-5947 (24 hours).

10.15.19 - City of Monroe water customers north of the River Raisin within the Raisinville, Exeter and London Townships and the Village of Maybee, are experiencing a Boil Water Advisory due to an overnight water main break and loss of pressure on North Raisinville Road.  NOTE:  City of Monroe residents are unaffected by the advisory and do not have to boil water.

Click here for a map of the affected areas.

Water pressure has been restored, but a boil water notice remains in effect until results from the sampling verify the water is safe to drink. Customers will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted.  The soonest the boil water advisory could be lifted is Thursday morning, October 17, 2019.

Due to the drop in pressure in the City of Monroe water supply, bacterial contamination may have occurred in the water system of the residents of Raisinville, Exeter and London Townships and the Village of Maybee,. Bacteria are generally not harmful and are common throughout our environment. Corrective measures are currently being undertaken to correct the situation.

What should I do?

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Continue using boiled or bottled water until further notice.

What happened? What is being done?

These precautionary actions are being taken due to the loss of water pressure in the water distribution system caused by a large water main break on North Raisinville Road around 8:00 P.M. on 10-14-19 for approximately one hour. Affected service area is north of the River Raisin within the Raisinville, Exeter and London Townships and the Village of Maybee, see attached map. Whenever a water system loses pressure for any significant length of time, precautionary measures are recommended.

The City of Monroe has restored pressure, and water staff is taking other remedial actions such as flushing and collecting bacteriological samples from around the system service area. The samples will be collected to determine that the water quality meets the state drinking water standards. We will inform you when tests show no bacteria and you no longer need to boil your water. We anticipate resolving the problem by Thursday morning.

This boil water notice shall remain in effect until results from the sampling verify the water is safe to drink. Customers will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted.  The City of Monroe Water Department is required to have 2 consecutive bacti samples test negative. The soonest the boil water advisory could be lifted is Thursday morning, October 17, 2019.
