Life Safety Programs

Life Safety Programs

The City of Monroe Fire Department (MFD) is responsible for a wide range of activities that make our community a safer place to work, shop and live. The most effective way to prevent the tragedy of fire and other injuries is education on their causes and to introduce strategies in dealing with these emergencies. The MFD strives to provide the safety tools needed to prevent tragedies through the following Fire Prevention Awareness, and Life & Fire Safety programs.

If you have any questions, please contact our Fire Clerk at 734.243.7507.

File of Life Program

This program assists first responders in gathering information in the event that a person is unable to communicate during a medical emergency in their home.

The File of Life card enables Fire/Police/EMS personnel to obtain a quick and accurate medical history when a patient is unable to offer one. The card also eliminates the risk of a patient forgetting to mention something important.

The card, which is kept in a red plastic pocket labeled FILE OF LIFE, lists the patient name, emergency medical contact, insurance policy, social security number, health problems, medications, dosages, allergies, recent surgery, religion and a health care proxy. The entire pocket is held with a magnet to the outside of the refrigerator.

You can obtain a FREE File of Life card for you and each of your family members at both the Central Fire Station and the West Side Station, or please contact our Fire Clerk at 734.243.7507.

Fire Extinguisher Training

The Monroe Fire Department offers hands-on fire extinguisher training for businesses, homeowners, organizations, and any adult interested in learning the benefits of fire extinguishers and their use. Different types of fire are discussed, as well as how to choose the correct fire extinguisher. Using the P.A.S.S. technique (pull, aim, squeeze, sweep), individuals are instructed on proper and safe use of extinguishers. With the support of La-z-Boy furniture, the Monroe Fire department has a Fire Extinguisher simulator. This provides the ability to do training's both indoor and outdoor.
