Groundbreaking Ceremony: New Fire Station No. 1
Join us in celebrating the groundbreaking for the new Fire Station No. 1. You are cordially invited to join representatives of the City of Monroe at the ceremony to take place Wednesday, September 5th at 6:00PM on the site of the old Lincoln School - 911 E. Third Street.
Construction will soon begin on the 15,561 square-foot facility that will provide essential life-saving services to the entire community. Offices and living quarters will be housed in a single-story structure, with a two-story apparatus bay attached.
The new station, designed by Redstone Architects of Bloomfield Hills and under the construction management of AUCH Construction of Pontiac, has been designed to get first responders to their apparatus and on to their response route as quickly as possible in a faster and safer way. The new, improved building will serve more staff, utilize more equipment, and respond to emergencies more efficiently.
Additional features of the new station include a community training room which will be used as classroom space for staff and general public. The building also will have the ability to remain operational after a major disaster, allowing fire personnel to continue providing vital services to the public, and serve as Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the City of Monroe.
Scheduled activities include remarks from Mayor Robert E. Clark. Fire Chief Robert Wight, and representatives from Redstone Architects, among others. The event will also include light refreshments, fire apparatus and trucks available to explore, and interior design boards and architectural renderings.
The project has been many years in the making and the public is invited to come out and mark the occasion.
The event will be followed by the previously rescheduled City Council meeting, which will take place at 7:30PM, County Commissioner Chambers, 125 E. 2nd Street. The regular meeting date was postponed in light of the Labor Day holiday.
