PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SECTION 32 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MONROE TO AMEND THE ELIGIBILITY FOR ELECTIVE OFFICE.

A City of Monroe Charter amendment has been proposed by the City Council to amend Section 32 of the Charter to amend the eligibility for elective office by: (a) reducing the age from twenty-five (25) to twenty-one (21), (b) deleting references to the offices of Justice of the Peace and Constable; and (c) eliminating a requirement to read and write the English language. Shall the amendment to Section 32 be adopted as proposed?


PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO SECTION 47 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF MONROE TO AMEND THE TERMS OF APPOINTIVE OFFICERS

A City of Monroe Charter amendment has been proposed by the City Council to amend Section 47 of the Charter to eliminate the stated terms of office for the City Attorney, Chief of Police, Chief of the Fire Department, and City Engineer while preserving the City Council’s existing authority to remove appointive officers by majority vote at the City Council’s pleasure. Shall the amendment to Section 47 be adopted as proposed?
