Public Safety
The Monroe Public Safety Department (MPSD) formed into a public safety department in 2010. The purpose of the Department is to protect and serve the citizens and help protect property within the City of Monroe. Both the police and fire divisions of the department have a long history of service to the citizens of Monroe dating back to 1837. The department has a full contingent of personnel, both sworn and civilian, who strives to provide the highest quality of service in the capacities of police, fire and emergency medical first response. Staff are fully-trained to fulfill all three areas of responsibility.
Both the police and fire service provide 24/7 protection to the citizens of Monroe. MPSD is a community-oriented, problem-solving agency that partners with the community to provide quality police and fire service through the utilization of data, technology, and highly professional public safety personnel. The staff collaborates with city departments, residential, business, educational communities, and community leaders to reduce crime, provide safety and security, and improve the quality of life for those who visit, live, and work in the City of Monroe.
The Monroe Public Safety Department is led by Director Chad J. Tolstedt, who was appointed in October of 2021.
