Community Center Expansion
The City of Monroe is preparing to kick off a revitalization that will transform the hub of programs, activities and services in the heart of the Orchard East neighborhood! Join us Tuesday, December 3rd at 4:00 PM at 120 Eastchester to celebrate breaking ground on this transformational project!
In October, Monroe City Council unanimously approved the plans for the significant expansion of the Arthur Lesow Community Center ("ALCC"). The $9.3 million state-of-the-art facility is geared towards community connection, creativity and education.
Designed to embrace the neighborhood, the expanded ALCC facility will span over 28,000 square feet, house the new Lillian Steward Navarre Branch Library, and provide a new home for The Learning Bank. The space will also be shared by the Opportunity Center, allowing for expanded programming and encouraging a collaborative synergy for this community-focused facility.
Along with the expansion, the new facility will offer a diverse array of opportunities for visitors that include: a community living room; spaces to harness creativity, inspire entrepreneurism and maximize flexibility; a significantly larger indoor and outdoor space for increased programs and services offered by the Navarre Library, Opportunity Center and Learning Bank; expanded programming and activities including media studios and community incubation spaces; youth activity area; reading terrace.
